Temporary passenger access
When Driving Mode is active, an eligible user can complete CertiRide’s passenger-certification process. A valid certification temporarily permits access that would otherwise be restricted by Driving Mode.
Driving detection can determine that a phone is traveling in a vehicle, but a phone alone cannot always determine whether its user is actually behind the wheel. Passenger Certification provides temporary access for genuine passengers.

Passenger Certification is temporary. A valid certification remains active for its designated period—currently up to 90 minutes—rather than permanently disabling driving protections.
A genuine passenger should not have to repeatedly certify because the screen turned off. A valid certification remains active through ordinary screen locking and unlocking for the remainder of its certification period.
A permanent “I’m a passenger” switch would create an easy bypass for drivers. Passenger Certification is designed to provide a practical exception for legitimate passengers without becoming a permanent way to defeat Driving Mode.
Passenger Certification does not permanently change protected-app settings. Once the certification is no longer valid, normal CertiRide driving protection applies again whenever driving conditions are detected.
CertiRide is a driver-distraction reduction aid. It is not a substitute for attentive driving, responsible device use, or compliance with applicable traffic laws.
